CARNABYS FOOD FOREST MURAL | Neighbourhood Celebration

11 December 2016 at 3:00pm until 6:00pm
Florence Community Park 1 King William Street  South Fremantle WA  6162

South Fremantle champions endangered Black Cockatoo through art. A lifeless wall in Florence Community Park, South Fremantle will be transformed into a spectacle of flocking Carnaby’s Black Cockatoos in time for South Fremantle’s weekend celebrating ‘Birak’ — the Noongar summer season. The Carnaby’s Food Forest Mural will depict a bird species of the Swan Coastal Plain and its relationship to food production in the park. The mural builds on the permaculture principles of the park and the planting of food-producing trees, herbs and vegetables. The Ngoolark is a significant indigenous totem. The community driven arts project is an innovative combination of storytelling, mural painting and community engagement input; local talks; a public launch; and connections to local Aboriginal culture. The outcome is a vivid representation of local natural and cultural heritage.’
The Carnaby's Food Forest Mural launch and community celebration on Sunday December 11 anticipates a visit from two Carnaby’s Black Cockatoos from the Kaarakin Conservation Centre. Other family related activities will be broadcast on the Facebook Event Page.

BOY AND BEAR LIMIT OF LOVE TOUR: Zaccaria

4 December 2016 at 6:00pm until 10:00pm

Fremantle Prison 1 The Terrace Fremantle WA 6160
Limit of Love is a band that is less about fine-tuning everything to the nth-degree, and more about capturing a band at the height of their powers in an honest, organic way. It’s an approach most modern bands would be too scared to try, but for Boy & Bear, that leap of faith has proven to be a very successful masterstroke.  Excited to be hitting the road, Killian Gavin (vocals, guitar), enthuses, ‘Often the venue depicts what kind of show we will go for.  A nice noise pub makes a great rock show while the intimate theatres allow a lot more room for dynamics and banter. We always love playing to as many local cities as we can, it takes time to get back there but we're looking forward to it.’

This deeply original multi-instrumentalist has entertained audiences in more than 10 extensive tours since 2001. Harry’s created his own genre, often referred to as the ‘Mystissippi Blues’. His mesmerizing sound is an organic fusion of eastern musical traditions with the blues. The result is an expressive, moving and unforgettable new world. His unique toolbox is a fascinating range of conventional acoustic and electric guitars, banjo, harmonica, stomp box, and the Mohan Veena, created by Harry’s Indian mentor Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. TEX PERKINS FAR FROM FOLSOM - Zaccaria

8 October 2016 at 6:00pm
Fremantle Prison 1 The Terrace Fremantle WA 6160

Far From Folsom embodies Johnny Cash’s legendary performances recorded at Folsom and San Quentin prisons in the late 1960s. Tex’s incantation of the show was launched as a one-off performance in The Old Parramatta Gaol last year with incredible success. From what was planned as one show, Tex and his band sold out three nights in a row. Taking his Far From Folsom on the road was a natural progression. The Johnny Cash concerts in Folsom and San Quentin prisons are nothing short of legendary, and make up a big part of the life story of the incredible musician. Far From Folsom takes a fast-paced, rollicking rock n’ roll journey to the heart of Johnny Cash’s music. With some of his best-loved songs and music from the prison performances, the Far From Folsom tour will embrace Tex Perkins’ reverence for this incredible musician’s career. There are few artists within Australia who can translate the work of ‘the man in black’ and bring it to modern day. Don’t miss this special concert at one of Australia’s most iconic non-working prisons.

Darren Hanlon is a truly independent folk singer, widely known for his lyrical poetry, compelling storytelling and engagement with diverse audiences, through the far-flung reaches of this country to international shores. He has drawn comparisons to Evan Dando and Billy Bragg, but he is really his own kettle of fish; an idiosyncratically Australian soul with a universal message. The Grand Magoozi is a voice in the lonesome night demanding an earnest and endearing ear, imploring us to see through the haze and make simpler sense of today’s world. SHANE HOWARD TRIO | DEEPER SOUTH TOUR

3 November 2016 at 8:00pm 179 High Street  Fremantle WA 6160

For 35 years, Shane Howard’s songs have mapped the human spirit and the Australian landscape. The musical landscape is as vast, mysterious and powerful as the Southern Ocean and Howard has found his true musical home. Howard’s musicality and skill as a guitarist are on display and enriched by the accomplished playing of John Hudson (guitar, dobro, mandolin) and Ewen Baker (fiddle, mandolin). Some tracks rock and roll, sailing wildly into the tempest of mighty squalls. Other songs are deeply meditative. Lyrically, Howard sets out on a complex and diverse voyage through the human experience with meditations on the writings of St Paul, songs inspired from Sufi poetry, meditations on grief, songs set to the words of John Shaw Neilsen’s poetry and a pirate murder ballad set in the Gulf of Carpentaria. Stories with biting social commentary and dark satire sit alongside praise poems to both the feminine and the divine. This is true folk music, but not as we know it.

Holdsworth and Roberts premiered Tubular Bells for Two at Sydney Fringe Festival 2010, where they won the 'Best Musical Moment' award. The production went on to tour Australia and New Zealand, including sell-out seasons at The Victorian Arts Centre (2011), Darwin Festival 2011, Sydney Festival 2012, and New Zealand International Arts Festival 2012. In August 2012 the show had a sell-out season at the Edinburgh Fringe, where it received multiple 5-star reviews and two awards ('Herald Angel Award', 'Broadway Baby 6 Star Award'), leading to a five-month tour of Europe and the UK in 2013, and a return European tour in 2014, US and Iceland tour in 2015. The level of musicianship is astounding, all the album’s psychedelic production effects are conjured live and wash beautifully over the instruments, and it’s arranged with such precision that the two lads almost make it look easy. You don’t even need to have heard Tubular Bells on record before. You just need to see this show.
